The Marvels has already set an MCU record as it officially becomes the shortest film in the franchise to date since it only has a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes (or 105 minutes), which is unusual nowadays since most tentpole films today range from 2-3 hours of runtime.
The film's shorter runtime is refreshing to see since recent MCU releases have runtimes of more than two hours and it suggests that the new movie is going to be tightly paced and more story and action-focused.
Some fans have been questioning why the film has to be shorter than usual and also concerned about whether it will be able to cover all the grounds that it needs, especially since it has three lead characters.
Now, the director behind the film has finally explained the reason behind its record-breaking runtime.

Nia DaCosta Explains The Marvels' Record-Breaking Shorter Runtime
In an interview with Digital Spy, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta addressed the movie's shorter runtime where she explained that it was her intention to keep it under two hours as she doesn't feel that it's necessary for it to be too long.
"I really wanted it to be under two hours. I always think about the runtime actually, when I go into a film. I just feel like there's no need to have it long if you don't need to, because 1 hour 45 minutes is pretty average for a movie, so we were all really excited," she said.
"I just think you do what's right for the movie. I didn't even know about this runtime thing until I think it was reported on. You have to do what's right for the movie."
In principle, an ideal runtime of a film will always depend on the story of the movie and its pacing. If DaCosta and Marvel Studios felt that 105 minutes was appropriate for this film, we should give them the benefit of the doubt that it could work even if it's unusual.
Some recent releases have also been criticized for their long runtime so it is interesting to see whether this shorter runtime will work this time around and the reception towards it will be favorable.
As long as the film covered everything that it needed in its shorter runtime, it shouldn't be a huge issue even if it's not common for an MCU movie and let's reserve our judgment until we see it in its entirety.
The Marvels is set to release in theaters this Friday, November 10.
