The Mandalorian Star Is Open To Lucasfilm Replicating Her Voice On One Condition

The existence of AI continues to push through as of today’s times, and apart from being able to create art from scratch with it, this technology can now also replicate anyone's voice, which could be manipulated and used for someone else’s own content. However, The Mandalorian Season 3 star Katee Sackhoff (who plays Bo-Katan Kryze’s voice in Star Wars: Rebels and the live-action actor in the MandoVerse) doesn’t see the problem with that.

“I mean, if my family reaps the benefit of that? Yeah, of course,” Sackhoff said in a recent interview with Comicbook.com, “I think we’re into a really, really tricky place with AI. It’s scary to me in some regard and others, you know, for a fandom to continue to have new content after someone is gone is pretty amazing.”

Sackhoff continued on to say: “But I do believe that the original artist should always be financially paid for their work and to sit there and say that they’re not working anymore is… that’s fine, but you don’t see people out there copying Picassos and being like, ‘You know, it’s fine.’ Someone’s getting paid for that. There’s a trust somewhere.”

It is worth mentioning though that Lucasfilm already had brokered a similar deal with James Earl Jones, who had retired from the Darth Vader role ahead of the release of the live-action Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Jones has supplied his iconic villain voice since 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

In fact, the same means was utilized in conjuring the youthful Luke Skywalker voice in The Mandalorian as well as in The Book of Boba Fett, seeing as original actor Mark Hamill is now in his early 70s.

Considering that Sackhoff performed both the voice and live-action version of the character Bo-Katan, it is likely that she would receive a similar deal in the future, should she ever be unable to continue performing in The Mandalorian. It remains unclear for now whether she will be able to reprise her role in Disney+’s Ahsoka, though.

The latest episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 is now available to stream on Disney+.
