Will Bo-Katan Get Her Own Series?

While it's been great so far to see Katee Sackhoff bring the character of Bo-Katan Kryze to life in live action in The Mandalorian (2019), many Star Wars fans are wondering if the time is ripe for her to get her own show...

Bo-Katan first appeared in the critically acclaimed animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008). While it takes a good few seasons for her to appear, when she does, she quickly becomes on of the most complex characters in the show. Is she bad? Is she good? The answer isn't as simple as you might think. Bo-Katan is complicated, which might be the best one you're going to get, and this is becoming even more apparent throughout The Mandalorian Season 3.

Before we go any further, be sure to check out StarWars.com for a full list of all The Clone Wars episodes in chronological order, as they're not laid out as such on Disney+ (due to the fact that there are many "sets" of episodes, which were broken up while the show aired by other stories). This is also a great way to narrow down all the episodes in which Bo-Katan appears. Sadly, there aren't that many, but she does became more prominent as the series nears its end.

Bo-Katan returned to the world of animation in Star Wars: Rebels (2014), the follow-up-of-sorts to The Clone Wars (although her appearance in Rebels actually came before the latter show ended, which was in 2020 after a long hiatus). Katee Sackhoff reprised her role in the show, however, Bo-Katan appears in Rebels much less than she does in The Clone Wars. As such, this makes the case that she deserves her own show.

And we aren't talking about an animated show (not that we would complain, but if Disney and Lucasfilm insisted, we'd have to choose The Clone Wars' style of animation over that of Rebels, which is evidently more popular with fans anyway, seeing as both Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and Star Wars: Bad Batch both adopt the exact same style). Bo-Katan deserves her very own live-action Star Wars show, and there's no better springboard than The Mandalorian.

Of course, it remains to be seen how things will play out for the character throughout The Mandalorian Season 3, but this is Star Wars we're talking about - to quote Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), "No one is ever really gone". In other words, as it always does, Star Wars can pick any era along its primary 70-year timeline to tell a story, so even if Bo-Katan is to be killed off in The Mandalorian (which is very unlikely), then there's nothing stopping Disney and Lucasfilm from giving her a prequel series.

After all, there are many untold years in Bo-Katan's history, particularly the gap that bridges Rebels and The Mandalorian, which is some 14 years, most of which would span the original Star Wars Trilogy and the years thereafter, before we arrive at The Mandalorian, or the "Mando-Verse", timeline. What did she get up to during that time? Where was she? Was she trying to rule Mandalore? And how did Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) end up with the Darksaber anyway?
