John Boyega Breaks Silence on Potential Doctor Who Cameo

John Boyega, who is most famously known for his portrayal of one of the stormtroopers, Finn, in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has once again expressed his desire to one day become a part of the Doctor Who franchise.

“You get inspired by things like Ncuti Gatwa playing the [15th] Doctor in Doctor Who — that is special to me,” Boyega said in a recent interview with Radio Times, “The glass ceiling can’t limit us. It’s exciting to see what comes out of this new stage of film-making and entertainment.”

For those kept in the dark, Ncuti Gatwa’s casting is a huge deal in the Doctor Who universe. Much like with how Jodie Whittaker became the first female Doctor Who, Gatwa’s role as the fifteenth Doctor sets him apart from the history of the previous doctors and that is by being the first Black Doctor to appear in the long-running scifi series.

The Star Wars actor continued on to address whether or not we could expect him to shine in the Doctor Who universe: “I would love that! But get me in an episode where I’m one of the many Doctors in many timelines, so I can just cameo it. Or I’d be the assistant, whatever. I’d show up – but just for one episode.”

Boyega didn’t have a pleasant experience working on the Star Wars sequel trilogy, what with the British actor experiencing his character getting botched by Disney for being Black, and the company further failing to defend him from racist fans. Though he has made peace with it, he has no intention of returning to Star Wars.

So to see Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa becoming the first to lead diversity in the beloved science-fiction series is of no doubt a huge step towards opening more potential roles for the future episodes.

We have yet to see any sign of Boyega joining the franchise, but hey, given the industry’s tendency to hire crossover actors, another Star Wars actor joining the franchise could be a fun mix, plus given how Boyega’s fond of the series, only time will tell when he finally gets the call to come aboard the Tardis.
