According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beef star Young Mazino has been cast to play Jesse in the second season of The Last of Us.

The character is described as "a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost."

"Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the moment you see him. We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Young shine in our show," showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said in a statement.

Mazino made his breakthrough in the hit Netflix series Beef where he played the role of Paul Cho, the younger brother of Steven Yeun's character. He also earned an Emmy nomination for his performance.

The actor rose as one of the breakthrough performers last year thanks to the Netflix series and his casting in the HBO series will definitely propel him to become a bigger recognizable name to the worldwide audience.

There's no doubt that he'll do a great job in playing Jesse and it is going to be another showcase for him since the character is way different from his role in Beef.

It is interesting to see who they'll cast more for the second season. There are more roles that need to be filled such as Dina, Lev, Yara, and Manny (assuming that they'll exactly follow the source material).

The first season of The Last of Us is available to stream on Max.
