This February, the second season of HBO's The Last of Us is set to begin production with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey returning to reprise their respective roles of Joel and Ellie.

The show's sophomore chapter is set to be based on the award-winning and divisive sequel of the video game The Last of Us Part II, which was released in 2020.

For the past few months, fans have been patiently waiting to find out which actress they will cast to play Abby, a pivotal character from the video game sequel and is expected to have a major presence in the second season as well.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Dopesick and No One Will Save You star Kaitlyn Dever has been cast to play Abby in the second season of The Last of Us.

The character is described as "a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved."

"Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material," showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said in a statement.

"Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family."

Dever recently starred in the hit Hulu horror film No One Will Save You which became one of the most streamed movies last year. She also received an Emmy nomination for her performance in Dopesick.

Back when the series was being developed, Dever was famously fancast for the role of Ellie due to her resemblance to the character in the video game. She reportedly auditioned for the role, but the producers decided to cast a younger actress instead with Ramsey.

Now, Dever is finally part of The Last of Us universe with a different role and it's interesting to see what her take on Abby will be in the series. Knowing her talent, there is no doubt that she will give a terrific performance and perhaps win the hearts of fans who might be doubtful of her casting.

The first season of The Last of Us is available to stream on Max.
