When the TV series adaptation of The Last of Us premiered last January, it immediately became one of the most acclaimed shows so far this year, and its third episode is also being raved as one of the best TV episodes in recent years.

As a result, in the months and weeks leading up to this day, a lot of awards experts and pundits have discussed the possibility of The Last of Us making a huge presence at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards.

HBO has also been heavily campaigning the series alongside the other programs that they have on their slate as well. If the show does end up getting recognized, it would be historic for video game adaptations.

This morning, the nominations for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards were announced and, fortunately, the show did end up getting embraced by the Television Academy.

The Last of Us managed to nab a whopping 24 nominations at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards including the coveted Outstanding Drama Series. It is also the second show with the most nominations overall following the fellow HBO series Succession.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey received nominations in the leading acting categories with the former also getting recognized in the comedy guest actor and narrator categories.

Meanwhile, the show dominated the guest acting categories as Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Montreal Woodard, Melanie Lynskey, Anna Torv, and Storm Reid nabbed nominations alongside the Succession actors.

They also scored nominations in both directing and writing categories for the acclaimed third episode "Long, Long Time." The rest of their nominations are in the craft categories although it was snubbed in cinematography.

There is no doubt that this is an impressive accomplishment for the series, especially since it is a video game adaptation, which is an untested genre before in awards conversation.

It would be interesting to see if they can translate most of their nominations into wins this September although it would be an intense competition since Succession is expected to dominate the race.
