It's official: The Last of Us Season 2 is coming soon. The wildly successful live-action adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game has been renewed for a second season.

We're loving the idea that The Last of Us will be getting a second season although the series is currently in its second week. Frankly, it's actually a surprise that the renewal took so long considering the success of the epic premiere that had people talking about the new HBO show.
The Last of Us premiered with a 77-minute episode that pretty much laid the groundwork for the series. The opening scene alone had a terrifying prediction of how global warming is tied to the zombie apocalypse that would have no cure. Episode 1 also stayed faithful to the game while introducing some welcome changes to the storyline and it didn't take long for the premiere to become the second most viewed debut on HBO, just behind House of the Dragon Episode 1.
But what can we expect in The Last of Us Season 2? There are speculations that the first game's storyline will carry over to the second season but it will focus primarily on the title's sequel The Last of Us II. That means that all those speculations about a particular game character being cast for the live-action adaptation might be true and could be announced soon. The second episode of The Last of Us Episode 2 continued to follow Joel and Tess as they escort Ellie beyond the Quarantine Zone and to the State House. Infected concluded with Tess' explosive exit which was a huge departure from the game but gave the character a more emotional (and decidedly icky) end.
The Last of Us Episode 3 is titled Long Long Time and will premiere on HBO Max on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
