The Ghostbusters Reboot Was Supposed To Be Directed By The Russo Brothers

Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo were supposed to direct the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, although theirs is of a different version from Paul Feig's. Apparently though, since they've already committed to the two Infinity War movies, any hopes of a Russo Brothers-directed Ghostbusters were shut down.

In an interview with Forbes, Joe and Anthony revealed how that happened.

According to the duo, there was a point where they were already speaking to Sony about a Ghostbusters reboot, but Feig already closed a deal with the studio and they decided to helm Infinity War.

Joe Russo said:

There is no status with that for us. There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them.
He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that's the only Ghostbusters world that's being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Infinity War, it took us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project.

It would make sense since the two-part Avengers movie will include just about every Marvel character to have graced the big screen.

But don't think that that project which the Russo Brothers pitched is completely off the table. According to Cinema Blend, there's still a script for the idea called Ghost Corps. If this year's Ghostbusters doesn't become a hit, there's no doubt studios will take a look at that script.
