The Flash Director Shares Michael Keaton Had An Emotional Time In the Batcave

We last saw Michael Keaton’s Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film and its 1992 sequel, Batman Returns.

Now that he is set to reprise his role in DC’s The Flash, director Andy Muschietti reveals the 71-year-old had an emotional moment returning to the Batcave.

“When [Michael] Keaton arrived to the set, the Batcave was already finished and it was lit and everything. He stayed like this [eyes wide] for a while. I didn’t want to interrupt him.” Muschietti recently told IGN.

“I just wanted him to take it in. Who knows what was going on there?” Muschietti added, “But something was going on there.”

The Flash director then shared the exact moment Keaton had a surprising request:

“It was funny because at one point during the scene where we shot him in the full suit, he was like, ‘Can you take a picture? It’s for my grandson.’”

“It was one of those moments where he really showed something was inside that was very emotional.”

This is not the first time Keaton has been involved with a superhero film. In fact, his most recent was in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he played the villain Vulture after 30 years of not being the Caped Crusader.

With Keaton returning in The Flash side-by-side with Ben Affleck’s Batman, both multiverse versions are about to meet and save Barry Allen from collapsing the multiverse into chaos.

While this doesn’t secure that we’ll be seeing Keaton and Affleck again in a potential The Flash sequel, the latter noted he finally learned how to play his hero:

“I did finally figure out how to play that character [Batman], and I nailed it in The Flash,” Affleck said, “For the five minutes I’m there, it’s really great. A lot of it is just tone.”

Meanwhile, we’ll be seeing Michael Keaton sporting the Caped Crusader again in The Flash, coming out in theaters on June 16.
