The First Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Mission has Failed

Pokemon: Sun and Moon's first global mission ended in failure, Kotaku reports. The aim of the mission was for players to catch 100 million wild Pokemon during the timeframe. Players missed this mark by quite a lot.

The English webpage on the event pretty much sugarcoats this, saying fans "just missed" the goal. In reality, the Japanese page tells us that only 16,423,231 Pokemon were caught. This is less than a quarter of the 100 million target.

The Japanese page is also far more blunt and honest overall, simply saying "result: failure" and then reiterating "unfortunately, the result of the first Global Mission/Attraction was failure".

There are many potential reasons for this result, but probably the cheif one was that players had to register with Pokemon's website to get their Pokemon to count toward the total. The website could be pretty hard to navigate, making it a tricky process. Some players didn't even know they needed to do this.

Another global mission will be coming later this month. Hopefully it will have more success.
