The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: Wyatt Russell Says Most Hated John Walker Moment was Improvised

There is little doubt that fans didn't like John Walker right from the start. After all, there was a moment in the premiere episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier that had people talking about the character's cockiness. Interestingly, Wyatt Russell has just revealed that the brief moment was actually improvised.

In the first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the government decided to give the Captain America shield to Walker although Sam Wilson had intended for the shield to be displayed at the Smithsonian. Amazingly, the new Captain America was introduced at the end of New World Order and Walker even winked at the camera.

That wink didn't go over too well with fans and Russell has just revealed that the moment wasn't even planned. In an interview with Esquire, the Overlord star shared that director Kari Skogland didn't even know Russell would wink at the camera.

"It was an improv, it was a little bit of an improv," Russell said. "Kari was moving the camera in and out with all these different angles, and I think I just looked in the camera and winked."

It seemed like the right thing to do to show off just how confident Walker was in his new role. However, Russell says he doesn't even know why he did it. "I think I might have done it as a joke," he said.

Well, it was certainly a joke that set the tone for Walker. The new (and recently deposed) Captain America has since become one of the most despised character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to what will happen to Walker in the final episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 5 is now streaming on Disney+. The final episode of the series will premiere on April 23.
