The first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier confirmed that we're getting a new Captain America. However, it wasn't the guy we were hoping it would be. So what do we know about John Walker? Wyatt Russell has just shared some interesting details about his mysterious Marvel Cinematic Universe character.
In the premiere episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it was confirmed that Sam Wilson still had the Captain America shield. However, he struggled with the idea of taking over the role and ultimately decided to surrender it to the government with the intention of having it displayed at the Smithsonian.
Not surprisingly, the government had their own plans for the shield. By the end of New World Order, Sam learns that the government has announced a new Captain America and gave the shield to John Walker.
But who is John Walker and why do so many people already dislike him? Russell admitted to USA Today that his character, who is a former Marine, does have flaws.
"I don't think there's really been many MCU characters who've had quite the dilemma he's had in terms of trying to fit into this sort of moralistic superhero world," Russell said of his character.
He continues by stating that John has "been thrust into this role as Captain America and he's going to do it his way, and he wants to do it right." However, that's not exactly a good thing.
"His way is a very specific way that he has learned through being basically a trained human hunter. I mean, that's what Marines are. They're not Steve Rogers, they're not the same. They're not like Boy Scouts anymore. They're a little bit more gnarly," Russell said.
That certainly sounds like a dangerous thing. John might look good in Cap's costume but he probably doesn't share the same views as Steve. With that in mind, John could be in for some major clashes with Sam and Bucky Barnes. Needless to say, he is going to be a character to watch out for in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
