Cameron Crovetti has been playing Homelander's son since season 2, which is why fans don't understand why Ryan's voice sounds different in The Boys season 4. What's up with that?

Ryan's Voice Sounds... Different in the Latest The Boys Episode

Ryan (portrayed by Cameron Crovetti) has been present in the series since his debut in The Boys season 2. It's only natural for the actor himself to grow older as more episodes air over time.

However, fans can't seem to get over how his voice sounds more high-pitched this fourth season. Whether Ryan was crying or burning Butcher in a Supe-based video game, his voice change was quite noticeable. So, what's really going on here?

Some fans surmised that it may be the show attempting to bring back the younger version of Ryan on-screen, despite the actor visibly aging in real life. While Ryan appears to be a 12-year-old on the show, the actor is actually 16.

If this is the case of the show, then it may have forgotten that Ryan is supposed to age faster than any average kid. If anything, the voice-cracking change is fitting for how quickly Ryan has to learn to adapt to being a Supe who could replace Homelander in The Seven.

Crovetti recently addressed the reason behind his sudden voice change in The Boys season 4, which you can check out below.

Cameron Crovetti Debunks Sudden Voice Change

Keep in mind that the actor, Cameron Crovetti, filmed his scenes in The Boys season 4 when he was mostly 14 years old.

The fourth season began its production in August 2022 and completed the series in April 2023, and the voice change can only be explained by one simple reason any growing boy is going through at their age.

Crovetti took to TikTok his celebration of how The Boys landed on the top 10 list in the US. As various fans praised him for his performance as Homelander's son, one particular comment pretty much answers the mystery.

In contrast to fans suspecting that the voice change was intentional to make him seem younger on-screen, Crovetti nonchalantly confirmed the real reason behind his cracking voice scenes.

In the comment section of his TikTok video, one fan said, "Bro, your voice had me crying [crying emoji]," to which Crovetti replied, "Yeah, puberty was mean to me."

Despite the criticisms Crovetti had to face for his developing vocal chords, some fans believed it was timely, especially since Ryan is still trying to figure out what kind of hero he wants to be, as opposed to his father who simply wishes him to earn his spot as leader of The Seven in the future.
