Hughie's mom, Daphne (played by Rosemarie DeWitt) first appeared in The Boys season 4, when she miraculously turned up after her ex-husband got sent to the hospital.

Similar to how Hughie was feeling, fans couldn't quite pin down what her purpose was for coming back into their lives in the first place.

Considering she left him when he was only six years old, this sparked the first theory that she may be involved with Vought's evil plans towards Hughie and the Boys.

However, upon watching more episodes as the fourth season unfolds, fans came up with another based on their observation: how come we barely see Hughie's mom interact with anyone other than her son?

Surely, she didn't miss him that much? Is it possible that she may be a hallucination?

Most fans believe that Hughie's mom may be a hallucination that was formed from his intake of Temp V. Similar to how Billy Butcher may be seeing remnants of his deceased wife, Becca, Hughie's mom may be a side effect from V24.

However, as easy as being a hallucination is in The Boys, the majority of fans are convinced that Hughie's mom is beyond his imagination.

As a fan pointed out, if Hughie's mom had been a part of his mere memory of when he last saw her, then he shouldn't have been able to decipher her exact age in his present day.

Another added that viewers may be forgetting she admitted she was working for Vought the minute she laid out sample medicines from the brand, even when Hughie told her not to.

This implies two things: either Hughie's mom is being used by Vought to get under his skin or she is being imitated by a shapeshifter of some sort. Keep in mind a new expected Supe with similar powers was teased in the trailer.

The Boys series has yet to confirm her existence and role, but let's not forget that she was able to also communicate with Hugh Sr. and the proper authorities present in the hospital.
