The Batman trailer released during the DC FanDome event gave us our first look at Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman, Colin Farrell's Penguin, Jeffrey Wright's Jim Gordon, and Paul Dano's The Riddler. However, there was one character that didn't seem to be featured in the clips... or so we thought.
The first of Riddler's victims is a man covered with duct tape, as seen in the trailer. This is likely Gotham's mayor, the first kill in the villain's anti-corruption campaign. Now, a theory from Screen Rant suggests that Riddler's second victim was actually in the trailer as well, the man who was bound in duct tape and a phone, along with a note addressed to Batman.
It looks like that man could end up getting blown up as Batman can't control the situation and that person seems to be the Gotham D.A. played by Peter Sarsgaard. Gil Colson is an original character created by Matt Reeves for the film, who appears to be missing from the trailer, or that's how it appeared.
The outlet listed some evidence that could point to Sarsgaard's Gil Colson being Riddler's second victim in the trailer. Prior to The Batman trailer's release, the actor has already completed around 80 percent of his part for the movie before production shutdown. The character was just seemingly hiding in plain sight in the funeral scene with the black car, with the letters "DA" and "DOA" scrawled on the side, which could stand for District Attorney, Dead On Arrival, likely referring to Gil Colson as he's strapped to an explosive device and a phone.
Not to mention, the person in the trailer has a shaved head, which Sarsgaard was also sporting in a December 2019 post from his wife, a month before The Batman started filming. All this evidence seems back up that this could be Sarsgaard's Gil Colson, who's set to have a grisly fate in the upcoming movie.
The Batman is currently set for release on October 1, 2021.
