The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland opened up about her decision to end the recently-aired episode 4 on a massive cliffhanger.

The first three episodes planted the seeds for the show's main mysteries including the identity of Mae's Sith Lord and the Jedis' involvement in the tragic event in Brendok that separated Mae and Osha.

In the recent fourth episode titled "Day," the stakes of the story intensified as another major character bites the dust and sets up a major showdown between the Jedi and the Sith in the next episode.

The Acolyte Showrunner Addresses the Episode 4 Cliffhanger

In a recent interview, Headland explained her decision to end episode 4 of The Acolyte with the reveal of the Sith Lord's murder of Kelnecca and his confrontation against Sol and the other Jedis.

"I find him to be very scary. I think that because this is a show about the bad guys, he is incredibly powerful, menacing, all of those things," she said.

When asked whether fans should expect additional flashbacks in the coming episodes, Headland simply teased, "You are going to get, I would say, drawn into his world a bit, and it'll be a little different."

Regarding the cliffhanger of the episode, the showrunner promised that it would be the beginning of the action when we see the continuation in the next episode.

"Hopefully it just continues down that road for people. You have to keep watching the show, and I think the audience will continue to be excited by where we end each episode," Headland said.

The final scene of the new episode certainly teased an exciting showdown in next week's episode, and it's interesting to see how it all plays out as we've seen glimpses of some of the fights in the trailers.

There are also a lot more mysteries and explanations that they have to unravel in the coming episodes as there are unanswered questions that they need to resolve in the rest of the season.

New episodes of The Acolyte premiere every Tuesday night on Disney+.
