There are already lots of anime with "girlfriend" in the title, and now another one is joining the fray. Recently, the manga series The 100 Girlfriends was confirmed to get an anime adaptation this year.

Along with the anime’s announcement, other details were also revealed, including its main cast, staff members, and a new visual that showed off the three main characters.

As the title implies, the series really is about a guy who gets 100 girlfriends as it takes the harem trope to the extreme.

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Manga

Over the past years, we’ve seen popular anime with "girlfriend" in the title, including shows like Rent-A-Girlfriend and Girlfriend, Girlfriend.

Unlike the more acclaimed recent romance anime titles like Kaguya-sama and My Dress-Up Darling which only focus on one couple, these shows have heavy harem elements. The new "girlfriend" anime is no exception.

Fully titled The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, this upcoming anime is based on the Weekly Young Jump manga of the same name by Rikito Nakamura and Yukiko Nozawa.

So, how does one guy get 100 girlfriends? Well, the story follows Aijo Rentaro, a guy who has asked a hundred girls out on a date but was rejected by all of them. He soon finds out from a god that these rejections were a mistake.

The god then tries to make things right. But what happens is that 100 girls are destined to be Aijo’s soulmate, and he must return their feelings or else they die in accidents.

Despite the ridiculous premise, the manga is popular, as it had over 1 million copies in circulation as of March 2022.
