Despite Madame Web's dismal reviews, Sydney Sweeney continues to enjoy public admiration. With new MCU debut rumours swirling, she continues to make waves among Marvel fans everywhere.
Industry insider account MyTimeToShineHello has leaked on X that Sweeney has been tapped to play Black Cat in the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Various fan pages have picked up the news and spread like wildfire across the microblogging platform.
The reputable source then posted a GIF of the 26-year-old actress coming out in a yellow dress and waving, with the caption, “Just confirmed, Sydney Sweeney IS IN.”
Syndey Sweeney, who first gained attention in the 2018 series “Everything Sucks!,” was apparently in talks with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige. Her supposed role will be that of Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat.
Hardy is a cat burglar herself, later confirmed to have the subconscious ability to affect probability and cast bad luck upon her foes. Over her history, she has been a part of Spider-Man’s rogues' gallery, an ally, and even a love interest.
Sydney Sweeney previously played Julia Cornwall in Madame Web. In the film, she is an awkward teenager hunted by Tahar Rahim’s Ezekiel Sims because she is a future Spider-Woman.
While the film was criticised for poor writing and screenplay, the Anyone But You star explained that her stint was because she makes “strategic business decisions.” She even credited her Madame Web role for helping her sell Anyone But You and landing Barbarella, an upcoming remake of a Jane Fonda classic.
Hailing from Spokane, Washington, Sydney Sweeney has also portrayed US Air Force veteran Reality Winner in the 2023 crime-drama film Winner and roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
