Super Mario Run to Arrive in December

iPad and iPhone players have something new to look forward to during the holidays from the Super Mario franchise.

Nintendo has just announced the first entry of the iconic plumber into the mobile gaming scene via the Super Mario Run game, set to arrive on Dec. 15. Over the official website, the company confirmed that the app offers a free-to-play experience with the three modes in the game.

However, the game can also be downloaded and paid for via a one-time transaction of $9.99. This will grant the player unlimited access to each of the three modes.

Nintendo also shared that Super Mario Run was developed from the ground up for a mobile experience. As such, players can control Mario as he runs forward on his own, and tapping on the screen can make him jump, steer clear of enemies, execute moves, and collect coins as he makes his way to the finish line.

"The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices. Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series' beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time."

The Dec. 15 launch date is planned for 151 countries and regions. Currently, Super Mario Run is only offered for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices running iOS 8.0 or later. It supports 10 languages, namely English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese.
