Netflix's critically-acclaimed series Stranger Things is nearly approaching its long-awaited fourth season and will be streaming later this week. First premiered in 2016, the series instantly became a pop culture sensation due to its retro yet dark themes that the fans extremely worshiped.

The series follows a group of friends in Hawkins, Indiana as they befriend a mysterious girl named Eleven, who was the subject of a Russian top-secret experiment bound to a dimension called Upside Down. Stranger Things Season 3 reveals that Russian scientists had been experimenting with Upside Down again, and Season 4 will probably pick things up from the third season's cliffhanger.

Now, since it's already been disclosed that the Russians are behind the experiments on the Upside Down, one fan thinks that a character in the series might secretly be a Russian spy.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Stranger Things star Maya Hawke responded to an interesting fan theory that foreshadows a major revelation about her character Robin. One fan suggested a theory that Robin may actually be a Russian spy all along. Hawke in response, says that she loved and even considered the theory.

"Love it," Hawke reacted. "I learn Russian alarmingly quick, I guess is one of the possible facts," Hawke responds. "[I] appear from nowhere, I was never a background actor in the earlier seasons in the school. I like the idea."

Well, that's an unarguably interesting plot twist if ever Hawke's Robin is indeed a Russian spy all along and was just tasked to look after Eleven and the Hawkins crew. However, ever since Robin was introduced in the third season of the series, fans instantly fell in love with Robin’s bad-ass yet clever character. If ever the theory is accurate, some fans of the character would undoubtedly get upset.

Nevertheless, we’ll surely know whether Robin is indeed a Russian spy when Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1 premieres on Netflix on May 27.
