Stranger Things Season 4 is premiering on Netflix this week, and the creators have already confirmed that the popular sci-fi horror series will conclude with its fifth season. However, that doesn't mean that franchise couldn't live on with a spin-off.

The universe of Stranger Things has already expanded beyond the Netflix series. Dark Horse has been publishing comics set within the universe for years. For example, there's Science Camp, a comic that shows how Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) met his girlfriend (Gabriella Pizzolo). There's also The Other Side, which reveals how Will (Noah Schnapp) survived his first experience in the Upside Down in Season 1.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, aka the Duffer brothers, are working on a new project set in the Stranger Things universe, they confirmed in an email interview with Variety.

In a letter to fans posted on the Netflix's blog, the Duffers promised to conclude the “tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends” but promised that “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”

The Duffer brothers and Netflix haven't revealed their ideas for the Stranger Things spinoff, but they told Variety that they have an idea that Finn Wolfhard correctly guessed.

“We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it,” the Duffer brothers wrote. “We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”

Currently, Stranger Things – which follows a group of friends as they investigate supernatural mysteries in their town – is in its fourth season, which will be release its first volume on May 27, followed by Volume 2 on July 1.
