Stranger Things 2 Character Was Meant To Die Earlier

[THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS SEASON 2]

Stranger Things 2 introduced us to a whole bunch of new characters in Hawkins including Max, Billy, and Grace Byer's lovable boyfriend Bob. Sadly, Bob was eaten by demo-dogs before the season ended, but the Duffer Brothers had planned for him to be written out much earlier had it not been for Sean Astin's great performance.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Duffer explains:

"Bob was always intended to die, but we fell in love with Sean and what he was doing with this character. He was supposed to die in like episode 4 and we just kept keeping him alive because he was so great and what he added to the show. Once we got to 8, we were like, we either got to do this or not do this. But I think it was important in terms of the stakes of the show. This is not a kids show and there are consequences and people do die. But we are sad to lose him because he really just blew us away."

Though Bob is admittedly corny from time to time, he does prove to be the partner that Grace Byers absolutely needed, and his usefulness and influence to the kids proved that Bob the Brain was no regular schmoe. He was able to read Will's maps and rig the doors in the Hawkins lab, and he was also the one who founded the school's AV Club in his youth.

Though some fans are still trying to catch up and finish season two, I think the Duffer Brothers were right when they predicted that Bob was going to be the "Barb" of the second season—a character that everyone absolutely loved but died before the season ended. He'll definitely be missed.

Stranger Things 2 is currently out on Netflix.
