Steven Yeun Breaks Silence on Rumored Thunderbolts Role

Marvel Phase 5 will be closing out by bringing fan-favorite characters together to work in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, which includes Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

Thunderbolts will also be debuting Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross, seemingly working alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Now, another actor is rumored to be included in the ensemble and that is Steven Yeun. While his rumored role to be The Sentry has yet to be confirmed, the Walking Dead actor confirms he will be debuting under the MCU film.

“I don’t know if [Marvel’s Thunderbolts] was explicitly on my bucket list,” Yeun said in a recent interview with Empire, “It was more [of] the story, getting to work with Jake Schreier again, who directed Beef, and what his intentions were. The intentions of the particular character that they wanted me to play were very clear, and that’s what drew me to the film.”

It had been recently confirmed that the Oscar-nominated actor will be joining the Thunderbolts roster, however, hearing the words come out of Yeun himself is what completely seals the deal — he is now officially a part of the Thunderbolts cast, as rumored. As for his rumored role as The Sentry, this remains to be seen.

The Sentry, also known as the ‘Evil Superman’, is bound to be one of the main characters of Marvel’s Thunderbolts, a seemingly hero whose fractured mind turned him into the dark side, transforming him into a supervillain known as the Void. Yeun MIGHT be playing this pivotal role, considering that his key role will serve a greater purpose in the future of the multiverse, as it was previously reported.

For now, though, it looks like we’ll have to wait until Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts comes out, which is currently slated for release in theaters on July 26, 2024.
