Star Wars fans are probably on edge as they wait for the third season of the well-loved series The Mandalorian. Although fan favorites Din Djarin and Grogu haven’t returned on screen, Lucasfilm has announced one more offering that fans can expect after enjoying The Mandalorian in March. Disney confirmed that the popular animated anthology series Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 is returning sooner than most initially anticipated.

The second season of the animated saga will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 4, 2023, which also serves as Star Wars Day. Unlike its first volume, which contained nine shorts from Japanese creators and anime studios, the second volume of Star Wars: Visions will feature shorts from animation studios around the world; filmmakers from different countries and cultures will present their vision of the Star Wars universe.

In an interview with Star Wars.com, Star Wars: Visions executive producer and Lucasfilm’s senior vice president of franchise content and strategy, James Waugh, explained the diversity they will try to showcase in the animated anthology.

“The reaction to the first volume of ‘Star Wars: Visions’ blew us away.” he began. “We were delighted that this project inspired and resonated with so many people. We always saw ‘Star Wars: Visions’ as a framework for celebratory expressions of the franchise from some of the best creators working today. Animation is in a global renaissance, and we’re constantly staggered by the amount of creativity pushing the medium forward.”

Waug continued, “With Volume 1, the imaginative minds of Japan’s anime industry were on full display. With Volume 2, we expanded our canvas to take audiences on a global tour of some of the most talented creators from around the world. We’re so proud to be able to reveal the line-up of studios we’ve assembled. Every short is incredible, full of heart, scope, imagination, and the values that make stories distinctly ‘Star Wars’— all while opening up bold new ways of seeing what a ‘Star Wars’ story can be.”

The shorts included in Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 were created by the following international animation studios: El Guiri (Spain), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Punkrobot (Chile), Aardman (United Kingdom), Studio Mir (South Korea) Studio La Cachette (France), 88 Pictures (India), D'art Shtajio (Japan), and Triggerfish (South Africa). D’Art Shtajio’s short was created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd. (United States).

In the announcement, the titles of each short were also revealed, namely Sith of El Guiri studio, Screecher’s Reach of Cartoon Saloon, Punkrobot's In the Stars, Aardman's I Am Your Mother, Journey to the Dark Head from Studio Mir, The Spy Dancer from Studio La Cachette, 88 Pictures' The Bandits of Golak, The Pit of D’art Shtajio and Lucasfilm Ltd., and Aau's Song of Triggerfish.
