Star Wars: Giancarlo Esposito Talks about Wielding the Darksaber in The Mandalorian Season 2

If you watched the season finale of The Mandalorian, you were probably blown away by how Moff Gideon managed to survive after his TIE Fighter crashed. After all, it was revealed that the Star Wars villain actually has the Darksaber and seems to be ready to use it so he could get his hands on Baby Yoda. Not surprisingly, Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed that Gideon will be wielding the weapon a lot in The Mandalorian Season 2.

During the recent Fan Expo Vancouver, Esposito spoke about how amazing it was to work with the Darksaber while filming for the second season.

"It feels wonderful to have that iconic weapon in my hand. It takes some getting used to, as it is longer than a normal sword or saber," Esposito stated. "And of course, it is shorter when you turn it off."

It might look and feel awesome but it was also fairly difficult to work with. Esposito revealed that it took a lot of practice to get used to how the weapon felt.

"So you have to figure out how to work the handle. And when you're using a saber like that, you have to think of — you can't really hit, because it'll bend," he said. "It has that [humming], it vibrates with that light and that energy … so you have to strike as if you're trying to hit someone with the heel of your hand, as opposed to letting the saber go out so you keep your wrist straight."

But is it all worth it? Esposito was quite to point out that "it feels powerful, it feels wonderful." However, he still needs a lot of practice since he's already making some trouble for the props department. "I broke three of them last week," Esposito admitted with a laugh.

It sounds like Gideon will be using the Darksaber for more than just chopping up TIE Fighters in the second season. Additionally, Esposito has already confirmed that the weapon will be used in a lot of lightsaber fights so we can't wait for the series to return later this year.

The Mandalorian Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in October.
