Star Wars: Genevieve O'Reilly Didn't Expect Mon Mothma's Return in Andor

Mon Mothma will be back in Andor and the political figure is finally getting a lot more screen time than she did in the Star Wars films. It's a great thing for fans who have always wanted to learn more about the character but Genevieve O'Reilly was not expecting to revisit the role. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor just admitted that she did not expect to be playing Mothma again in the upcoming Disney+ series!

Genevieve O'Reilly portrayed Mon Mothma in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story where she played an important role in pushing the story further. Still, there was not enough screen time for Mothma, at least not enough for us to learn what she is like when she isn't being a part of the Rebellion.

Not surprisingly, Genevieve O'Reilly was happy to reprise her role in Andor. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared her thoughts on being asked to return as Mothma.

“To have the opportunity to explore her and delve into her — not just as a Rebel leader, but also as a woman — has been something that I didn’t expect and something that I’m thrilled to be a part of,” O'Reilly said.

She added how Caroline Blakiston's performance as Mon Mothma made her realize that the character is more than just a political figure and that Mothma cared about every person she has worked with.

“I always thought that at the heart and center of that moment, Caroline carried a pain that I could see. So I was always really curious what that pain was,” O’Reilly said. “And so to get the opportunity to discover that will hopefully inform and elevate the work that already exists.”

We're certainly going to see just what Mothma has gone through when Andor finally premieres next week.

Andor is set for a three-episode premiere on Disney+ on September 21, 2022.
