Mon Mothma's Role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Detailed

Mon Mothma, the politician and revolutionary leader who served in the Galactic Senate and Imperial Senate, will play an important role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, annd Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy sahred some detials about Genevieve O'Reilly's character in Gareth Edwards' upcoming spin-off film.

As EW reports, Mothma will play a pivotal role in aiding in the destruction of the first Death Star, tasking Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Capt. Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) with a secret mission to secure information about the deadly weapon.

In Return of the Jedi, Mothma was played by Caroline Blakiston, but O'Reilly will depict the characterin Rogue One, where she'll have a "signifcantly larger" role, says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

"We actually see quite a bit of her," Kennedy added, noting that because the Rebels are in a state of panic and chaos, she stands up to be a leader "amongst a wide variety of Rebel soldiers that have very differing opinions as to what to do."

It's good to know that some characters from previous stories will appear in Rogue One. We already know that Forest Whitaker is playing Saw Gerrera, a character who debuted in Star Wars: Clone Wars animatd series. Darth Vader was also confirmed to return, but don't expect to see a lot of him in the film. It would be interesting to see how Gerrera, Darth Vader, and Mon Mothma will be portrayed differently in Rogue One.
