Main Characters in Andor

Diego Luna will be returning to play the main character of the show, Cassian Andor. Luna first played the character Andor in the 2016 Star Wars film Rogue One. Another actor returning is Forest Whitaker, who will be playing Saw Gerrera, who appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Bad Bitch, and Rogue One.

Genevieve O'Reilly, who also appeared in Star Wars: Rebels and Rogue One with Luna, will also appear as senator Mon Mothma. Mothma was a supporter of the rebellion who eventually became the leader of the New Republic. Ben Mendelsohn will also appear as the villain Orson Krennic along with Alan Tudyk, who will voice the droid, K2SO.

Aside from actors who first appeared in Rogue One, we will also meet other named roles who will appear in Andor. We will also see Anton Valensi as Ben, who will appear in three episodes, and Alex Ferms as Sergeant Kostek, who will appear in twelve episodes.

Other Actors In Andor

Aside from the actors who will be playing named characters, we will also see Adria Arjona from Pacific Rim and Stellan Skarsgård. Denise Gough, who played Yennefer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Fiona Shaw, from Harry Potter, will also join the cast.

Tony Gilroy will be the director and showrunner for Andor. Gilroy also previously worked on Rogue One, so he is familiar with most of the actors in the show. Dan Gilroy (Tony Gilroy's brother who previously worked on Nightcrawler), Stephen Schiff (best known for The Americans), and Beau Willimon (best known for House of Cards) will be writing for the show.

Toby Haynes, who is maybe most known for his work on Black Mirror, Sherlock, and Doctor Who, directed the first three episodes of Andor because Gilroy had to delay his travel due to the pandemic.

Rebels

Based on the trailer, Andor's first season is set early during the post-Order 66 world, where the Empire may still be using clones. This is evidenced by the stormtroopers who still wore their first armors and the training facility shown in the trailer. The trailer also shows us the insides of the imperial facility, which suggests that we will see espionage and data stealing.

So far, there is also no mention of lightsabers or Jedi or the Sith, so this may be another Star Wars spinoff that will take a different path.

Andor will tell us the origins of its titular character, Cassian. It will also show us the untold story of the Rebellion, especially the gritty and rougher events in the story. In Rogue One, we know that Cassian is willing to do whatever it takes to help the Rebellion, even if it means killing those close to him. This willingness to kill may be an indication of a problematic past and may also be a reminder that no one is safe in the series.

Disney+ released the official synopsis for Andor:

The Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor's journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It's an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Star Wars: Andor Season 2

Andor Season 2 has already been confirmed even before the first season was even released. It will be a two-part season that will have 12 episodes. Some of the characters from the first season will be returning for the second season. The writers also already confirmed that the themes from season one will continue on to season 2 as we learn more about Cassian's life.
