Star Wars Gamers Disappointed By EA’s Cancelled Open-World Game

Word came out earlier today that EA decided to cancel the development of one of its Star Wars games to make way for a smaller-scale project, and it looks like Star Wars fans aren't too happy hearing the news.

Taking to social media, Star Wars gamers have responded to the cancellation of EA's open-world Star Wars game, some pretending to be surprised, others expressing disappointment over the videogame publisher's decision. EA has been having trouble making use of its Star Wars license the past few years with fans finding Star Wars Battlefront tepid and Star Wars Battlefront II's microtransaction system venal and exorbitant.

Now, the news of the highly anticipated open-world Star Wars game adds another stain on EA's name, with gamers posting about their disappointment on social media.

News about the open-world Star Wars game's cancellation first came from Kotaku. According to the publication, the Star Wars game was passed on to EA after the shutdown of Visceral Games, and before it became an open-world project, the game was originally supposed to be a linear action game created by the director of Uncharted.

This comes as a major disappointment to gamers. While fans' faith in EA's Star Wars games has been dwindling over the years, many were looking forward to an open world game exploring Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away. Hopefully, the same fate doesn't fall on Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
