Boba Fett has been a massive part of the Star Wars franchise for over four decades now and what drew fans to the character was the air of mystery surrounding his true identity. Obviously, the prequel trilogy explored young Boba's origin but the famed bounty hunter has kept his profile anonymous throughout his adult life. That is until The Mandalorian decided to finally reveal the person behind the beskar, played by Star Wars icon Temuera Morrison.

The return of Fett's bounty hunter persona to the franchise was well-received by fans that it left Disney with no choice but to give him his own spinoff The Book of Boba Fett. However, one franchise legend isn't a fan of how the House of Mouse has handled the character so far and if he had things his way, he'd keep Boba's identity a huge secret.

In an interview with The New York Times, director and concept designer Joe Johnston, who served as art director for The Empire Strikes Back slammed Disney's decision to reveal the man behind the mask. According to him, showing Boba's face takes away all the mystery surrounding the character which has pretty much been the bounty hunter's thing. The Boba Fett designer explains: "I never would have shown his face. I would never have had an actor underneath where he takes the helmet off and you see who it is. I think that eliminates a lot of the mystery. Before that helmet comes off, he can be anybody."

Well, Johnston does raise a pretty valid argument and while keeping Boba's face a huge mystery is a nice idea, I personally believe that it would've made the character stale in the long run. And hey, seeing as Temuera played Jango Fett and a bunch of Clone Troopers in the prequels, fans already had an idea of how Boba would look so I don't think it's that big of an issue.

The Book of Boba Fett streams on December 29th exclusively on Disney+.
