Star Wars: Comic Reveals Vader Built His Fortress to Resurrect Padme

Anyone who's seen the Star Wars prequels knows that Anakin's fall to the Dark Side was not for selfish reasons. Though it seems that Vader was an emotionless machine, the comics reveal that there is still some of Anakin left in him—specifically the part that misses Padme.

In the new Darth Vader comic (via ScreenRant), we have Vader trying to search for a place to build his own fortress, and he decides to do it on the planet Mustafar. It was a curious choice to have it there, seeing that it was the place of Anakin's defeat, but the anger apparently fuels Vader to make him more powerful.

And why does he need to grow his powers? Because he's still holding on to the possibility that he could bring Padme back from the dead. This was already foreseen by the Emperor, and if anything, he supports Vader's decision all the way. He even went so far as to bring back Padme's personal chrome Naboo starship:

We know that Luke was right to think there was still good in Vader, but these little snippets of humanity are what make the character more compelling. After all, he wanted the power not just for himself, but to save someone he loved. Sure, he was talking about overthrowing the Emperor in Revenge of the Sith, but he was still doing it with Padme in mind—that is, until he almost chokes her to death.

Darth Vader #22 is now available.
