Star Wars: Andor Trailer Teases the Return of Clone Troopers in Live-Action

The recent Star Wars Celebration has brought forth a lot of news for the franchise over the course of the holiday weekend, from several announcements of upcoming shows like Star Wars: Skeleton Crew to other shows like Andor receiving a second season.

In fact, that wasn’t the only Andor news to be announced during the Celebration. Lucasfilm finally released the first teaser trailer for the show’s first batch of episodes set to be released this fall, giving the fans a peek at the series that’s being called a Star Wars “spy thriller.”

The teaser trailer of Andor featured a lot of familiar faces such as Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and it also brought back a group of characters from the prequel trilogy. In the trailer, fans were able to get a quick glimpse of Clone Troopers, the first time they’ve been seen in live-action since the prequel trilogy ended with Revenge of the Sith back in 2005.

The trailer that was released also teases the political themes of the show, even teasing some scenes in the Imperial Senate, the first time it will be seen on-screen after it was formed from the ashes of the Galactic Republic in Revenge of the Sith. The creator of Andor, Tony Gilroy, admitted during the Celebration that the initial plans were to have a five-season run, though it seems that has since been scaled back.

"Originally we thought 'oh, maybe we'll do five seasons', but it's just the scale of the show," Gilroy said in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. "I think when the show comes out everybody will forgive us for not doing that. The show is huge and it's just physically impossible. So then we were like 'what are we going to do?' And then the answer turned out to be incredibly elegant and perfect because we knew where we wanted to go. Every now and then you get really lucky and the solution turned out to be really fortunate for us."

Star Wars: Andor is set to release its first two episodes on Disney+ on August 31 with the remaining 10 episodes to be released weekly.
