It's no secret that Star Wars actor John Boyega is a fan of Japanese anime. Last January, he shared an Instagram post showing his love for the Boruto anime series. Like other Hollywood celebrities like Michael B. Jordan, Boyega isn't ashamed to show his otaku roots. During a recent Q&A with fans, the Star Wars actor revealed his favorite anime shows.
Speaking on Reddit, Boyega did an Ask Me Anything thread to promote his work on Pacific Rim: Uprising. The actor shared some interesting things about the mecha-inspired franchise, and some fans wanted to know about Boyega's love for anime.
On his AMA, Boyega revealed his Top 5 favorite anime series: Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, Seven Deadly Sins, Naruto, and Attack on Titan. Boyega even went on to say that Attack on Titan is his favorite but he said that his rankings could always change depending on how he feels.
This isn't the first time Boyega shared his enthusiasm for anime. Back in 2015, while promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he talked about his passion for Japanese pop culture during an interview with Rocket News 24. He said that he saw a lot of similarities between his character Finn and Naruto.
"He is a character that wants to lead and has a dream, but doesn't necessarily know how to go about it, and doesn't have the right skill set… I love [how Japanese entertainment can] capture an underdog story, and I root for underdogs," Boyega said.
