The Star Trek franchise on television has been expanding a lot for the past few years as more shows are being developed for Paramount+ with one of them being the children's animated series Star Trek: Prodigy.

Aside from introducing new alien characters that are steering the ship, the series also brought back the iconic captain Kathryn Janeway from Voyager with Kate Mulgrew reprising the role.

The series was somewhat of a success as it was received well by the critics and it even had its airing on Nickelodeon. Now, it looks like the series' tenure on Paramount+ will be over very soon thanks to a critical business decision.

According to Deadline, Paramount+ has canceled Star Trek: Prodigy after only one season and it is set to be pulled off from the streamer next week as a part of the company's content write-down.

It is one of the four original shows that is affected by the streamer's cancellation spree alongside Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Queen of the Universe, and The Game.

The children-targeted animated series was previously renewed for a second season which had already completed production and was supposedly going to air on the streamer this year.

As a result, the studio will now be looking for a new home on a rival broadcaster or streamer where the second season will air alongside the existing first season.

However, Paramount+ remains committed to the Star Trek franchise as they're currently airing the second season of Strange New Worlds and is set to air the upcoming seasons of Lower Decks and Discovery.

They are also working on the new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy which is slated to begin production next year and the TV movie Star Trek: Section 31 which will bring back Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou.

This is certainly disappointing news for fans of the series since it will no longer be available on Paramount+ although they should still keep their hopes up as they might be able to find a new home very soon.

Since Prodigy will now possibly move to another home, Paramount+ will no longer be the home of all Star Trek shows. We should be hearing more updates about this in the coming weeks.
