Star Trek: Discovery Actor Explains The Federation's War With The Klingons

In Star Trek: Disocvery, we'll see the war between Federation and the Klingons. Based on the dialogue from the show's trailer, Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) started the conflict

CBS hasn't revealed what exactly triggered the war between them, but Star Trek: Discovery actor Doug Jones (Lt Suru in the show) helped explain why the conflict becomes violent. Speaking to IGN, Jones said:

"The Klingons in our storyline are the bad guy. They are the ones that can't be reasoned with and they are trying to take over the universe for their own altruistic reasons that they think are right. But in the sensible world of reason, we are trying to peacefully work this out. They won't have it."

Jones also discussed Saru's role in the war to help keep Starfleet flying.

"So I reflect the attitude of Starfleet in that we have to win this, but we must do it in Starfleet fashion," he said "We have rules and a Federation to adhere to that is civilized."

The war with Klingons was teased in the latest trailer released at SDCC.

Set 10 years prior to the five-year mission of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery follows the adventures of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere on CBS on September 24.
