When will Star Trek 4 start filming?

Star Trek 4 is supposed to start filming by the end of 2022. When Chris Pine was in the 2022 Comic-Con to promote his latest movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Deadline asked him about Star Trek 4. He said he still hasn't heard anything about the fourth Star Trek movie, but when asked if he was interested in returning to play Captain Kirk, he said:

Yeah, of course I am. If it happens, I think all of us would come back.

During an interview with Variety for the film Top Gun: Maverick, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins talked about plans to focus on its franchises. Robbins also revealed that the company is almost ready to start working on Star Trek 4:

We're deep into [Star Trek 4] with J.J. Abrams, and it feels like we're getting close to the starting line and excited about where we're going creatively. I'm a research nerd, and what the data tells me is that the audience wants [the cast of the first three films] in this movie

The Star Trek Crew

Star Trek 4 may still be led by Chris Pine as Captain James Kirk. His crew may still include Zachary Quinto as Lieutenant Commander S'Chn T'Gai Spock, Karl Urban as Admiral Leonard McCoy, and Zoe Saldana as Communications Officer Lieutenant Commander Nyota Uhura, and we may also still see Simon Pegg as Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott and John Cho as Lieutenant Helmsman Hikaru Sulu.

Star Trek New Characters

Pavel Chekov

One of the beloved crew members who will not be returning is actor Anton Yelchin, who died because of an accident in June 2016. He played Starship Navigator Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek trilogy from 2009 to 2016, when he appeared posthumously one last night in Star Trek Beyond.

There is no confirmed plot for JJ Adam's fourth Star Trek movie, but recent reports say that it will take place after the last Star Trek movie released in 20 6, Star Trek Beyond.

In Star Trek Beyond, we see Captain Kirk and his crew crash the USS Enterprise on the planet Altamid after they were ambushed by Captain Balthazar Edison (played by Edris Alba), a human who was a pre-Federation soldier. The crew soon learns about Edison's true plans to use an old bioweapon to attack and destroy the Federation, so they stop him without the help of their ship.

By the end of Star Trek Beyond, we learn that Ambassador Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy) has passed away, and Uhuru and Spock break up.

What we do know about Star Trek 4 is that it will not be exploring Captain Kirk's reunion with his father, George. In the 2009 Star Trek, Chris Hemsworth played George Kirk and met with Captain Kirk through time traveling. Hemsworth turned down returning to play a more significant part in the Star Trek film in 2019.

Star Trek 4 Trailer: Is There a Trailer for the New Star Trek?

The Star Trek sequel is still early in pre-production, so we may still not have a trailer for it. We may watch the trailer a few weeks before the premiere of the movie, which means we can expect it anytime during the last quarter of 2023. In the meantime, here is the trailer for Star Trek Beyond.
