In a recent interview with OSEN, Park Hae Soo spoke about the psychological changes that the characters experienced in Squid Game. According to him, it was that factor that drew him to the series. But he admitted that he "never felt any differences" between himself and his character Chong Sang-woo while filming.

Sang-woo is the childhood friend of Lee Jung Jae's Seong Gi-hun. The latter is very proud of Sang-woo because he graduated from the prestigious Seoul National University. Their neighborhood believes Sang-woo is a successful businessman.

"While working on the drama, I never felt any differences between Jo Sang-woo and myself. The choices grew easier as it felt like I wasn't acting, so it felt strange," Park said as translated by Soompi.

However, he had a change of heart after filming.

"Now that filming is over, I think I'm most similar to Seung Gi-hun," Park added.

In the same interview, Park admitted that he had somewhat expected the worldwide popularity of their K-drama. Even if the show is Korean, he feels that there are many factors in the show that the audience can relate to.

"Although they're Korean games, there's plenty of things for people to relate to. I figured that people would think a lot about these things while watching the drama," he said.

Meanwhile, Lee didn't expect that Squid Game will be an international hit.

"I didn't expect ['Squid Game'] to get this popular all over the world," Lee said. "I filmed for it while hoping that it would do well in Korea. However, the producer or the director may have had this global popularity in their minds, as they decided to release it through Netflix. I wondered if it was reality, after such a huge wave of responses were received. A lot of my friends who live overseas continue to contact me [about it]."
