Squid Game is, no doubt, a huge success. In fact, it's the first Korean TV series to hit the top spot on Netflix internationally. However, its lead star Lee Jung Jae, who played Seong Gi-Hun, didn't expect the survival TV series to be a global hit.
Lee Jung Jae Only Hoped Squid Game Will Do Good In Korea
Lee Jung Jae was delighted with the success of Squid Game. The series dominated the Netflix series on the top spot for six days in a row worldwide.
When the Korean actor was asked about its success, Lee gave a humble response.
"I didn't expect ['Squid Game'] to get this popular all over the world," he was quoted by Allkpop as saying. "I filmed for it while hoping that it would do well in Korea. However, the producer or the director may have had this global popularity in their minds, as they decided to release it through Netflix. I wondered if it was reality, after such a huge wave of responses were received. A lot of my friends who live overseas continue to contact me [about it]."
Squid Game Season 2 Predictions
Squid Game ended with a cliffhanger with Gi-hun canceling his flight to the United States to track the people behind the survival game that killed hundreds of individuals. There were 456 of them in his batch, and only Gi-hun and player 001, Oh Il-nam (Oh Yeong-su), who turned out to be the mastermind behind the game, survived. Il-nam also died due to a brain tumor.
There are rumors that Gi-hun will be the next mastermind because he will soon find out that the old man, Il-nam, is his biological father. The previous season showed several hints that seemed to suggest that they are father and son.
Netflix has not renewed Squid Game yet. We will let you know once it gets the green light.
