Squid Game’s success seems to be never-ending with its recent nods in the Emmy Awards.

On Tuesday, the Emmy Awards formally announced its nominees for the 2022 Emmys. Several series and movies immediately became the most honored after having the most nominations, like Succession (25) and The White Lotus (20).

The 74th Emmy Awards ceremony will air on September 12 on NBC and Peacock.

Although the list has been dominated by international titles and celebrities, Squid Game came out strong with 14 nominations.

Squid Game Shines in Emmy Awards Nominations

Emmy Awards officially named Squid Game in 14 different categories, including most of its top awards.

The hit Netflix series became the first non-English series to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. It currently stands against other popular US shows, like Yellowjackets, Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Severance, Ozark, Succession, and Stranger Things.

The other categories the series made it to include Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, and Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour).

Meanwhile, five cast members also earned slots in different categories.

Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon’s names both appear in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series categories, respectively. Meanwhile, Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo scored slots in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Lee Yoo Mi scored a nod in the Guest Actress in a Drama Series category.

Squid Game Director Also Made History

Amid the drama and its cast members’ success, the showrunner also proved his power in the recent nominations.

Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk became the first native Korean to score Emmy nominations for directing and writing for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

The recent milestone came after the director told E! News that there would be new games and characters in the series’ Season 2.

“​​I have a set outline. I have a treatment of a whole season two episode with new games and new characters. I like it. I think it's good. It's better than what I expected.”
