What Happened to the Dad in The Spiderwick Chronicles Series?
The Spiderwick Chronicles never took it easy on showing the true colors of Jared's (this time, played by Lyon Daniels in the 2024 series) dad.
The original books portrayed their dad as someone deadbeat and selfish, who would rather spend his time canceling his plans to hang out with Jared than actually be the present father they wanted him to be.
However, nearing the climax of the story, we actually get to witness Jared's dad come over to the Spiderwick house, but not in the way you think.
While the books and the 2008 flick indicated that the dad who visited Jared is not Richard Grace, but rather Mulgarath in disguise, how is it any different in the series?
Well, it goes down the same way, close to the 2008 film where Jared knew what secret question to ask that only his dad would know, and the minute the Mulgarath answered incorrectly, it was only then that Jared stabbed him in the chest, revealing his true form.

Who Plays the Role of the Dad in the TV Series? Meet Rhys Coiro
While Andrew McCarthy played the role of Jared's dad aka Richard Grace in the 2008 flick, Rhys Coiro is the 'new' Richard in the 2024 series.
Coiro studied theater at Carnegie Mellon University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree, and then eventually spent time studying at The Moscow Art Theater in Russia.
His first on-screen acting gig began with playing Billy Walsh on Entourage and unexpectedly, turned out to be the iconic character he needed to develop his career since then.
Coiro is best known for his past TV roles such as Diablo in the 2005 CSI: Miami, Razor in CSI: NY, Vincent Bianchi in Ugly Betty, as well as being Bradford Matinsky in 2010's Hawaii Five-0.
As for more recent ones, he played Jed in The Walking Dead series, Gabe Navarro and Santiago Morales in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Donny Blaze in the MCU's She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.
