Spider-Man: No Way Home Surpasses Black Panther as the Fourth Biggest Domestic Box Office Earner

It's been a month now since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in North American theaters, but it is still doing very well at the box office even though it is absent in a few international markets such as China. It truly is the biggest movie of 2021. Now, as it continues to earn more at the box office, it has surpassed another MCU film at the top highest-grossing films at the domestic box office.

According to Forbes, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to pass Black Panther as the fourth-highest grossing film at the domestic box as it is projected to earn $26 million during the MLK weekend which will surpass Black Panther's numbers which are at $700 million. Spider-Man: No Way Home's domestic box office numbers are currently at $698.7 million after earning another $20.8 million during the Friday to Sunday weekend.

It is impressive that the film is still breaking a lot of box office records even though some theaters around the world have closed or lessened their capacity due to the surge in relation to the Omicron variant. It just shows that the film is still a major hit and it is likely that the recent box office comes from the people who are rewatching it. Now, all pundits are currently looking out for the possibility of it overtaking Avatar which is currently on the third spot with $760.5 million.

As Forbes noted, it is very much likely now that the reason behind Morbius' release date delay is to give more breathing room for Spider-Man: No Way Home's box office earnings, and it is expected to do more numbers in the next several weeks until it becomes available on VOD at the end of February or when Uncharted (another tentpole film starring Tom Holland) gets released in mid-February.
