Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been plagued with several fan theories from the very beginning. Some are completely outrageous while others seem pretty plausible but we've proven over the last couple of months that not everything we believe in is true. Take for example the persistent theory that Wanda Maximoff was the one responsible for messing up the multiverse, it did make a lot of sense when WandaVision was still airing and fans thought for sure that the mystery has been solved when the show ended.

However, all of the assumptions towards Wanda being the multiversal culprit changed when we saw before our eyes that Sylvie actually caused a massive disruption in the multiverse by branching the timelines when she "killed" He Who Remains (Kang the Conqueror) in Loki. Now, Spider-Man: No Way Home is once again challenging everything we thought we knew about Phase Four and the intriguing concept of the Marvel Multiverse.

Spider-Man: No Way Home's first official trailer dropped yesterday to much fanfare and aside from all the explosive moments that went down in the 3-minute teaser, a lot of fans believe that it finally answered the long-standing question MCU viewers have had since WandaVision and that is who exactly should be blamed for opening the portal to the Multiverse.

The trailer sees Peter Parker seek help from Doctor Strange in reversing the events of Far From Home where his identity was exposed to the world. Apparently, the Master of Mystic arts has a few tricks up his sleeve but his trusty ally Wong advises against it as it could lead to something seriously catastrophic. Of course, being the stubborn person that he is, Strange still proceeded with casting the spell in an attempt to help Parker.

However, the ritual was broken up by Parker himself after Strange gets distracted by his questions. In the end, the spell he was trying to cast was completely interrupted and it seemingly backfired. You knew something was up the moment Strange lost his concentration and a lot of fans believe that is how he "accidentally" unfastened the portal to the Multiverse.

Of course, that remains a huge assumption for now but what if Strange was actually the one responsible for the multiversal chaos that is about to ensue? Can we now consider Wanda and Sylvie innocent? Probably not but if there's one thing we learned from Marvel films through the years, it's to expect the unexpected and not rely too much on what we think is real.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in cinemas on December 17, 2021.
