Following the successful release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earlier this summer, a lot of fans have been looking forward to the third installment Beyond the Spider-Verse which is supposed to arrive in theaters early next year.

However, with recent updates from the producers that the third film is still a long way to go in its production and the dual strikes that have halted all major Hollywood productions, there have been concerns about whether it will be able to make it on its planned March 2024 release.

Now, as we're a few weeks into the actors' strike, we now have a major release update on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and it looks like we are going to wait longer on its arrival in theaters than we anticipated.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Has Been Delayed Indefinitely

According to Variety, Sony has delayed the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse indefinitely. It was previously set to arrive in theaters on March 29, 2024 before it was removed from the release calendar.

The decision to indefinitely delay the release of the third film was due to the ongoing actors' strike as the voice cast is currently not able to record their dialogues and it won't be finished just in time for the release early next year.

A new release date is set to be announced in a few weeks as Sony is still making a decision on when they can set a new release date and it could also depend on whether the studios will finally agree on a fair deal with the actors and writers.

This is part of the series of announcements that Sony made surrounding their upcoming releases such as Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel.

This is certainly a disappointing update for fans who have been looking forward to the third film, especially after the major cliffhanger that the ending of Across the Spider-Verse left off and the wait will now be longer than we expected.

If we can make a guess on the film's new release date, the most likely is late 2024 at the earliest since the live-action Spider-Verse movies are already dated in the first eight months. It could also be delayed to early 2025 instead to avoid the already-oversaturated market of the Sony/Marvel movies for that year.

We should be hearing more updates about this in the coming weeks as the current situation surrounding the strike is changing and we will be able to find out whether the wait will be way much longer than what we're hoping for.

For now, you can catch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which is still screening in selected theaters. It is set to arrive on VOD platforms this August 8.
