Villains are usually after some main goal they have long been planning to accomplish since their dreaded childhood days, and Kraven the Hunter is no different. So, why is Kraven the Hunter obsessed with Spider-Man?
With his number one goal in mind in becoming the world’s greatest hunter, Spider-Man became one of his most formidable rivals or foes.
Now the question lies in why Kraven is so obsessed with hunting down Spider-Man? What did the friendly neighborhood web-slinger ever do to him?
How Did Kraven the Hunter Become Obsessed with Spider-Man?
Why is anyone ever obsessed with anyone, really? Obsession may be a strong word to some, but Kraven the Hunter’s main target being Spider-Man is an understatement.
Before that comes into view, you have to take note that Kraven earned his name for a reason — to hunt down his prey.
Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven the Hunter’s name before he embraced his new identity, has always been meant to become a predator as ingrained into his head by his father, who was a Russian nobleman training alongside the best hunters and poachers.
This undoubtedly led Kraven to take on his new identity and goal of becoming the world’s greatest hunter.
In the Marvel Comics, Kraven the Hunter is considered to be one of the major Spider-Man villains alongside Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom.
Kraven has hunted the friendly neighborhood web-slinger in more ways than one, on multiple occasions as one of the founding members of The Sinister Six, a group of supervillains he would eventually become a part of.
Overtime, the character had grown his obsession in defeating Spider-Man due to possessing a sense of honor in surpassing his most worthy opponent he has ever known beyond the species he met within the animal kingdom.
Sony’s Kraven the Hunter is slated to make its theatrical debut in cinemas on October 6th this year, and though we are still being kept in the dark on how much his origins will be changed in his own solo film, one of his characteristics in terms of his instincts involves always being the unsurpassed predator.
And this is where his obsession with Spider-Man comes in.

Why Does Kraven Hunt Spider-Man?
Kraven the Hunter may have been often depicted as ‘Spider-Man’s Number One Rival’, but for what reason, exactly?
Apart from his role in being an antagonistic figure in Spidey’s life, what else is there for Kraven the Hunter in finding and hunting down Spider-Man?
Well, as previously mentioned, Kraven’s main goal is to become the world’s greatest hunter, and seeing as it is likely he has already faced and walked away victoriously from his many greater enemies before meeting Spider-Man, the web slinger becomes his next target he must defeat with his own bare hands.
Overtime, in the Marvel Comics, Spider-Man would always be underestimated by Kraven the Hunter, especially if you look at the age difference (with Kraven being 70 whilst remaining younger in his physical form), Kraven would obviously presume that his experience and natural hunting instincts would lead him to easily execute his prey, no matter where or who they are.
Somehow, Spidey was the exception.
Spider-Man became the most formidable opponent he had ever witnessed.
At one point, specifically in the 1987’s Kraven’s Last Hunt, Kraven managed to kill Spider-Man, bury him, all so he could use the web slinger’s identity as his own.
However, upon Spider-Man’s revival, Kraven was in complete disbelief, which led to his ultimate end of taking his own life with his own bare hands, instead.
Up to this day, Kraven the Hunter remains one of Spider-Man’s deadliest foes, and to witness just how deadly he really is, releasing his film and official debut in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (as well as in Marvel) as ‘R-rated’ should be telling you pretty much what to expect from his story.
