Spider-Man Animated Movie’s Webslinger is Miles Morales

Miles Morales will finally star in his very own limelight in his signature black and red Spider suit. The upcoming Spider-Man animated movie will put him as the star web-slinger instead of Peter Parker.

Deadline reported that this was made official by Sony Pictures Animation's Kristine Belson, ending speculations about who exactly will put on Spidey's mask for the movie.

Over Twitter, Sony also confirmed that Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey will be directing the film. The latter has just come onboard, and will hopefully bring in his expertise as seen in Rise of the Guardians.

For those who are not familiar with Miles Morales, he replaces our friendly neighborhood original Spider-Man after his death. He was originally created by comics writer Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Sara Pichelli back in 2011. While originally meant to be a character outside of the Marvel universe, Miles became a popular character who was soon brought to canon Marvel.

There's still a long ways away before Spider-Man the animated movie arrives in theaters. The story will be penned by writer Phil Lord, who also serves as executive producer with Chris Miller.

The still untitled Spider-Man animated movie will be out on Dec. 21, 2018.
