Spider-Man Actor Andrew Garfield Expresses Desire to Revive Canned Marvel Project

I've always believed that Andrew Garfield was actually a pretty good Spider-Man and if anything, his version of the web-slinger was just a victim of bad writing and internal conflict within Sony Pictures during the time. By no means was The Amazing Spider-Man an awful Marvel film but its 2014 follow-up The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a complete mess which ultimately resulted in its failure.

Speaking of the divisive Sony flick, it would've set the stage for the formation of the Sinister Six led by Harry Osborn's version of Green Goblin. Some of you may recall that a spinoff project which would have been written and directed by Drew Goddard was actually in development which would've technically served as the third sequel of The Amazing Spider-Man series. However, due to the second film's underwhelming performance, plans were scrapped.

In a new interview with Collider, Garfield opened up about his disappointment over the project not materializing. According to the British actor, he loved Goddard's vision for the film and after all these years, he remains hopeful that the film will "one day" be realized. He said: "I don't know how close it got, but I definitely had a few meetings, and it was really exciting. I've got to say, because I love Drew so much, and I love Cabin in the Woods and the other stuff that he's made. We just got on like a house on fire. I loved his vision, he's so unique and odd and off-kilter and unconventional in his creative choices. So that was definitely a fun couple of months, but life."

A Sinister Six project under Sony's helm would've been an awesome film but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 obviously hurt its chances of ever being made. But as fate would have it, Andrew has a renewed shot at taking on the iconic Marvel supervillain team in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sure, he has come out but there's absolutely no way that you can fake all the pieces of evidence that have been making the rounds online. I'm beyond convinced that he's part of the film.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in cinemas on December 17, 2021.
