A lot of mystery still surrounds Marvel Studios' third Spider-Man film and although the cameras have started rolling for the project, we've yet to get a clear grasp regarding the true nature of the film, will it just be a regular sequel or will it be something much grander?

By the looks of things, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may actually be setting up a live-action Spider-Verse event but aside from that, a lot more could potentially go down in the yet-to-be-titled Homecoming 3 and as it stands, all signs point to an "OMG moment" featuring a fan-favorite character who might undergo a drastic change in the sequel.

We're talking about Peter Parker's trusty ally and wingman Ned Leeds. Actor Jacob Batalon shocked the entire Marvel fandom when he showed off his new physique last October ahead of filming and this led to a lot of fans assuming that he could take up the mantle of the Hobgoblin in the film. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Now, in an intriguing turn of events, Marvel Studios may have actually dropped clues regarding Ned Leeds' villainous future. The "official" Instagram handle of Tony Revolori's character Flash Thompson recently shared a wacky poll that makes fans choose between Leeds and his former flame Betty Brant. The fictional account has served as Sony and Marvel Studios' marketing platform in the past.

If you'll pay close attention to the image, a drawing of what seems to be an orange triangle can be seen on Ned's head which somewhat resembles a hood. Not just any other hood, but Hobgoblin's signature hood. Is this a confirmation that the lovable character could actually be the next big Spidey villain? Check out the image here:

Hobgoblin Easter Egg?

The idea of Spidey's best friend becomes his worst enemy has been played out numerous times in the past but this time around, it's completely different. You see, Ned has always been portrayed as a comic-relief guy and he looks so unassuming that he'd be the last guy you'll expect to turn on Parker.

Nothing about him really screams "villain material" but on the other hand, Ned Leeds did become the Hobgoblin in the comics so this one isn't too farfetched to believe.

Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for release in December.
