Marvel fans have been longing to see Keanu Reeves become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite a while now and a lot of people believe that it's only a matter of time before the John Wick star joins the lucrative film franchise. However, Keanu may actually be already off the market and new rumors suggest that Sony Pictures is quite adamant about getting the services of the Hollywood icon.
Looks like Sony is still determined to build their own Marvel movie franchise revolving around the side characters and villains from the Spider-Man lore. Currently, Venom, Carnage and Morbius are already part of Sony's slate while other characters like Black Cat, Silver Sable, and even Spidey's trusted "conscience" Madame Web will reportedly be getting their own spinoff projects down the line.
Now, Keanu, who will star in The Matrix 4 could be the next actor to join Sony's expanding Spidey universe and potentially join Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, and Jared Leto. A new rumor from insider Charles Murphy of Murphy's Multiverse suggests that Keanu is being eyed to join Sony's own Spider-Man universe in an undisclosed role.
Although details about the role are seemingly being kept under wraps, the report claims that the project will be centered on iconic Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter. Could this mean that Keanu could potentially become the live-action version of Sergei Nikolaevich Kravinoff?
It's safe to assume that Reeves is being considered for the role of Kraven but I'm a bit skeptical about the actor fitting the bill physically as the character has always been portrayed as an imposing figure in the comics and animated series but I'm sure he can work that one out. At least he already has that killer instinct in him which I believe would help him become a believable Kraven. Nothing has been confirmed anyway so I guess we'll just see how everything plays out.
Sony Pictures' Kraventhe Hunter spinoff is in active development.
