Sony Pictures CEO Addresses Spider-Man's Next Step After No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home finally had its world premiere last night and the responses have been very glowing so far, with some even calling it the best Spider-Man live-action film so far. While the film will not be out to the North American audiences until Thursday, some fans are already wondering about the future of Spider-Man after the film and if he will remain in the MCU.

A few weeks ago, producer Amy Pascal revealed that they have plans to continue the partnership between Sony and Marvel Studios by making another trilogy surrounding the character. However, it was later debunked by The Hollywood Reporter. But recently, Matthew Beloni of Puck News recently wrote in his newsletter that he heard from multiple sources that Marvel and Sony are already secretly working on a fourth Spider-Man film.

Now, speaking with ComicBook.com, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman has finally clarified about the future of Spider-Man after No Way Home in which he stated a tidbit that should excite fans who are looking forward to seeing him more in the MCU. He also pointed out that Marvel and Sony have a "terrific working relationship" which is contrary to speculations that the partnership might break soon.

He said, "No specific plans. But it's reciprocal. We lend one, then they lend one, and that's how Benedict [Cumberbatch] is in this movie, so we have one more lend back that is committed. But the thing that I can say, and this is actually the accurate scoop on this, which is that the two companies have a terrific working relationship and I think it's a mutual hope that that would continue, but there really isn't anything definitive at this moment because the truth of the matter is we gotta ride this puppy and see what happens."

In case you forgot, when Marvel and Sony renewed their partnership back in 2019, part of the deal is to have Spider-Man appear in a non-Spider-Man MCU movie. Rothman basically confirmed in the interview that there are plans for Spider-Man to appear in another MCU movie after No Way Home. Of course, it remains to be seen which MCU project will he appear in, but there have been speculations that it could be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
